So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim Your might to all the generations to come.
Psalm 71:18
Grandparents are fun. They’re old enough to still put fear into the hearts of your parents (because they know things!), and young enough to remember what a cold scoop of ice cream tastes like on a hot summer day!
Top grandparent quips:
Being a grandparent means you can be as silly as you want to be.
Grandparents are there to help the child get into mischief they haven’t thought of yet.
And my personal favorite:
A grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend.
I remember my dad’s mom always had something good for Sunday dinner. Homemade rolls and my favorite – tea cakes! My husband learned how to make tea cakes from his maternal grandmother, and it sparked the cooking fever in him. He went from being a line cook in a restaurant to being the executive chef for one of St. Louis’ top Italian restaurants! Seeds had been planted.
Grandparents have a way of reminding us of what came before while giving us hope for what will come after. They are our link to our past and to our future. Their prayers and their example are what helped to shape our parents, and consequently us!
Some have walked the journey of faith, while others have not. But whether your grandparents were churchgoers or not, God has continued to be with them! Their legacy lives on through us and each succeeding generation. That’s why the Psalmist cried out the text above, Psalm 71:18, which reminds me of the Beatles’ lyrics: Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I’m 64! This Psalm answers that question.
We have the assurance that as we age, God is still by our side even in our old age (if you consider 64 as being old, which I do not!). There are still things for us to do, such as proclaiming the Gospel to the next generation and the next generation, etc. Some of you have great-grands who you will one day tell about the love of Jesus. So, yes, Jesus still needs you!
And as I stroll thru our Psalms Praylist, I discover that God is still feeding me through His Word. You never grow too old to read Scripture, and you’re never too old to discover even more of the Lord by His Word! So, yes, He’ll still feed you!
Grandparents are the family treasure. Full of snuggles, treats, and lots of wisdom. I invite you to join us this Sunday as we celebrate Grandparents Day with the sermon: When I’m 64!
The Psalms Praylist is a podcast of the Psalms. From September 1-30 you can tune in and hear the reading of Psalms, each and every day! Thanks to some wonderful folks, we will hear a variety of voices praying the Psalms. All you do is listen and pray. The podcast can be accessed in 2 ways – thru a program called Spreaker or on Podbean:
For Spreaker: go to www.spreaker.com. In the program’s searchbar type in: Psalms Praylist. The logo is:
For Podbean: go to www.podbean.com. Search for: Psalms Praylist.
Both programs have an app, if that’s easier for you to utilize.
