Director of Music and Worship – UMC of Green Trails

Position Summary: The Director of Music and Worship will plan, prepare, and execute worship services ranging from contemporary to traditional, seasonal concerts, weddings and funerals. This position will lead all musical staff, paid and volunteer. The Director will encourage and cultivate the spiritual growth of singers and musicians, instilling an understanding of their musical abilities as ministry in service to God. The Director will direct singers, ensembles, and handbells to provide excellent music that brings depth of meaning, passion, and vitality to worship services.

Ministry Responsibilities:

Work closely with the Pastor to develop liturgy and music that supports and enhances the message of the day

Actively seek or create opportunities for worship to positively impact our community through special services, events, and community engagement.

Lead, train, and prepare music ministry participants of all ages to share musical gifts through a variety of music formats, including contemporary and traditional music, choirs, guest soloists and musicians, and other musical experiences.

Maintain regular rehearsals for choirs, soloists and instrumentalists and communicate weekly with music ministry members via email.

Provide and lead music during the Sunday morning worship service and possibly provide music in other life events to include weddings and funerals with separate financial compensation for those events.

Provide all music titles, lyrics and necessary information by agreed upon schedule to the A/V team for media displays on Sunday morning.

Maintain records and engage in reporting as required for CCLI.

Will take two Sundays off a year for personal refreshment and will also take one Sunday off a year for professional development through a conference/workshop. The director will arrange for a substitute to fulfill duties in his/her absence.

Work with Pastor and Business Manager to be accountable for setting and managing the Music Ministry budget.

Responsible for submitting Music Ministry and A/V payroll.

Attend weekly staff meetings.

Other music duties as assigned by the Pastor.

Scheduled for an annual review.

Compensated based upon experience and expertise and subject to annual review to reflect job performance and the needs of the church.​

Time Commitment: This position is responsible for results rather than hours worked. The estimated average of 25 hours per week, including Sunday worship, rehearsals, special services (such as Lent, Advent, and Christmas), preparation time, participation in weekly meetings with the pastor, time to research appropriate music, and leading the music ministry throughout the year.
